Preschool Philosophy
I am very passionate about creating a positive first learning school experience
for young children! I feel it is vital to create a nurturing environment that
enables each child to be comfortable and confident in attending school. A
constructive preschool learning experience can cultivate a positive self-esteem
while children work and play to figure out who they are and how they fit into
the world. Learning to: socialize, play cooperatively and use independent
problem solving skills are vital to a child’s transition into Kindergarten.
Together we will initiate positive socialization and self-confidence through
stories, songs, art, sensory play, music and movement, learning, and free
play.
WHY CREATIVE BEGINNINGS?
I am dedicated to providing a quality early school experience for preschoolers
through teaching and independent play that peaks each child's curiosity and
develops the "whole child," encompassing intellectual, social, emotional,
physical and creative growth. I also realize that a child’s early years can
help build the foundation for their lifetime
pursuit of a happy, successful life.
We include exciting and fun themes that we learn about through art, stories, songs, science and more!
We work on social and emotional growth while encouraging each child to be their own little person!
We encourage an open communication with families to ensure we are providing
a fun and safe learning environment for each child—taking into account the many different personalities!
We become quite a little family every year!
Family Testimonials:
"My daughter has been attending Creative Beginnings for two years -
learning, playing, and growing with Miss Misty and all the great friends she has
met there! Miss Misty has a true dedication and passion for educating
children, and this shows in how much the kids love her. She goes the
extra mile in planning positive, creative, and educational experiences for
preschoolers - and truly cares for each and every child in her school.
Miss Misty believes in education of the whole child - academically, emotionally,
socially, and physically - and it shows in the activities & experiences she
provides at her school. I have watched my daughter grow in many ways
thanks to the safe, loving, and educational environment Miss Misty
provides. I am confident that my daughter will have a successful
transition into kindergarten with all that she has learned &
experienced at Creative Beginnings."
"My husband and I have been very impressed with Creative Beginnings Preschool, and are very grateful for the time and care Misty takes with our son. Misty
creates an environment for the kids that is safe, fun, and inviting.
Throughout our time at Creative Beginnings, our son has gained confidence
and uncovered the joy of learning - he enjoys absolutely every minute in
Miss Misty's class, and is excited to go every day. Thank you
Misty!!! "
Brad and Andrea
"Our son asks all week, "When is the next day at preschool?". He loves attending the Creative Beginnings Preschool and we love hearing about all the fun activities and
crafts the kids do there. Our daughter has already learned many of the songs that are regularly sung and can't wait to attend next year!"
"What I have to say about the preschool is that it is awesome! Misty makes my little
guy so welcome, he even says he loves her. I love all the creativity and thought
that Misty puts forth through her learning. She is easy to get along with
and great with the kids. I will be going back to her next year with my
3 year old and then the next 3 years after with my youngest. Nothing
negative to say, she does her job great!"
"Caiden has spent 2 happy and wonderful years at Creative Beginnings Preschool.
You have provided a very loving, nurturing and safe environment for Caiden while he has been developing his social skills and confidence while preparing him for kindergarten. Caiden has learned so much while at Creative beginnings including art projects, encouragement and understanding! We are really going to you Miss Misty and all the wonderful friends that Caiden has made, thank you for making Caiden’s first school experience so special."
Angie and Jay Paull
"Alyssa looks forward to her preschool all week long. I know she feels well cared
for and stimulated. Not only does she enjoy the structured time but the opportunity to choose her free time- usually crafts! Misty has a very loving nature and wonderful knowledge of preschool learning and development. She makes it fun for the kids. I would recommend this preschool program to anyone!"
“Sending my first baby off to school was not something I was looking forward to, until I met Miss Misty at Creative Beginnings Preschool. I was referred to her by
a good friend who is an elementary school teacher, and whose opinion I hold in
high regard – especially when it comes to education! My son’s eyes lit up
with wonder and excitement when we walked into the school. I could tell
this was going to be harder on me than him. He immediately began playing
with the other children as Misty and I discussed her teaching methods, routines
for the kids, and schedule for the week. Periodically looking over at my
son as we were talking, I could see he may not want to leave this place!
By the end of our meeting, I was convinced, this was the preschool for my
son. He is absolutely thrilled to go to school every day and I feel
comfort knowing he is going to a preschool that encompasses a nurturing
environment where he can learn, play with peers, build confidence and be
creative. It makes me smile every time he points out his art hanging on
the walls and seeing his face beaming with pride. He loves telling
everyone (and anyone) about preschool and all the fun things he does and learns
there. Needless to say, my son is the biggest advocate for Creative
Beginnings Preschool. I love the regular communication and monthly
calendars sent home to read about the activities they will be doing and things
they will be learning. Misty is very passionate about what she does, and
it shows. I would highly recommend Creative Beginnings Preschool to anyone
I know.”
"I am very pleased to say that ever since my son Jack has been attending
Creative Beginnings there has been a huge improvement with his social and
learning skills. Miss Misty is one of the most patient, compassionate, kind Teacher and Mother I have ever met. It's been a pleasure getting to know her, the children and the other Mothers and Fathers that I have met throughout the past couple of years. Miss Misty is always sending sentimental crafts for every holiday, the kids are learning new things everyday and also learning how to behave with each other. Jack has been patient with the family (his sister especially) more mature and a wonderful, sensitive boy that Miss Misty has helped me raise.I would strongly recommend Creative Beginnings for any child wanting Pre School or the Phonics Program. Jack has been to both programs and loves going to see his friends and Miss Misty."

"I feel so blessed to have found Creative beginnings for Hudson he has learnt so much and grown in so many great ways from being apart of this wonderful school. A mom only hopes she will make great decisions for their kids so they will succeed and grow in confidence and I know that Hudson has found that and now has a great foundation for the years to come. I will always be grateful for your teaching,
guidance and patience with Hudson."

More About the Program and Classroom Itself
The classroom is an ever changing environment! The surroundings reflect our
themes and the changes in season, being very bright and welcoming for our
little scholars!
Various play centers are set up that include: a circle time area for teacher guided stories, songs and games, as well as free play areas including dramatic play, dress-up, art, sensory play, blocks, puzzles, building, science & books! Aspects of the centers will change
with the themes where possible to increase the value of the learning experience
for each child. They will be set up in such a way to encourage cooperative play,
while leaving room for independant investigation as well!
In addition to the play centers there is the craft/snack time area where we do daily
activites or art that go with our weekly theme. I am a 'process, not product'
instructor! In other words, it doesn't matter what the art project looks like
when it is done - just that the child enjoyed and learned from the process of
making it! The craft time will encourage freedom to be creative and explore
various art medias.
There is a daily Circle Time that can include
storybooks, flannel stories, singing, finger plays, rhymes, games, group discussion, and movement songs that will follow our weekly theme as well!
The learning experiences will be integrated into all parts of your child's preschool surroundings - although we do not focus on the ABC's through things like worksheets, there will always be opportunities to learn early math concepts, pre-reading (in phonics based class), shapes colors, name recognition's and some writing of names - and so much more - but maybe not in the way we traditionally think! Teaching
of these areas will be incorporated into the programming as well as the
classroom surroundings so that it is positive and fun, while allowing for
creativity and individuality which makes it developmentally appropriate to match how children best learn at this age!
Please check out this wonderful link that talks about what is developmentally appropriate learning for preschool aged children: http://www.earlychildhoodnews.com/earlychildhood/article_view.aspx?ArticleID=134
Centre Based Play: Even our playtime includes learning! I take a centre based approach to the classroom play which means there are divided centres in the classroom. Each centre allows for children to play socially and independently while exploring different play skills! Our areas include a Dramatic Play area with a Kitchen, dress up area, mirror, table and chairs, Doll house, etc. Our Math and Science Area includes things like magnets, measurement with a scale, rocks and other manipulatives. Our Fine Motor area has puzzles, blocks, ball rolling toys, lace up activities and other games that encourage the improvement of fine motor movement through play. We have a reading corner with a light and chairs as well as a craft table that includes items such as paper, scissors, glue, stickers, envelopes, coloring etc that is always available during free play time. We have an area which is a favorite :) that has our trains, cars, animals, trucks, and bigger play structures, farms, etc. We also have a sensory table that has included Play dough of various types and textures, bean and macaroni play, 'flubber', and theme based activities to name a few. We have tables for activities and our Circle time area where we gather to read stories, sing songs and learn about our weekly theme; this area also doubles as a play area for building, reading, and includes a flannel board, white board and calendar, and we also have our music set up in this area and often put out instruments to play with! Games and activities are often being added depending on our theme as well!
Early Literacy Program: Creative Beginnings Preschool encourages literacy around every corner! We have a 'Backpack Buddy' literacy program. Every week, a child gets to take home the Backpack Buddy and everyone has a turn! Each buddy is a book series character that goes home in a special backpack with storybooks, a matching game, coloring activities, songs to sing and many other opportunities to learn! The preschooler gets a chance to look after the buddy while enjoying the stories and activities, and then the family writes in a journal what adventures the backpack buddy was able to go on with that child. When the child returns the buddy and backpack, we take some time during circle time to have the child stand in front of the class (if comfortable with that) and tell us what they did during their time with the buddy! As well as having a child be excited about reading, it can also be a great start to linking home and school, as well as giving each child pride for taking care of something 'on their own' and self confidence as they discuss their adventures with the class!
We also make monthly SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDERS available to our students and families - they have an amazing selection of books at fabulous prices and free books can be ordered for the classroom when families place orders and we earn bonus dollars!
We have a STAR OF THE DAY program that the children really look forward to! Each day, a different child gets to be the 'Star of the Day!' That day, the child gets to change the day of the week on the calendar, count out the date, lead our welcome song, help hand out snack, and it is his/her Ipad play day during the free play time at the end of class! When handing out snack, we discuss what each child's name starts with and take note of the sound it makes as the star hands it out.
Monthly calendars will go home with each child
so that you as parents can help your child look forward to and talk about what
is coming up -- this enables the whole family become a part of the learning
experience!
I am really excited to be able to offer both play based and academic based learning classes! I hesitate to use the word academic because the way the children learn their letter sounds in the Jolly Phonics programs is though actions and songs! I have been truly amazed by the ability of the prekindergartens learning in the Jolly Phonics program and have really enjoyed how excited they get when we are starting a new set of letter sounds - they come in and check the poster every week to see if there are new sounds posted. Children of all learning levels have benefit from this program and I love how the program is fun and that we can still apply all or our usual themes as well.

JUST PLAYING
by Anita Wadley
When I'm building in the block room,
Please don't say I'm "Just playing."
For, you see, I'm learning as I play, about balance,
I may be an architect someday.
When I'm getting all dressed up,
Setting the table, caring for the babies,
Don't get the idea I'm "Just Playing."
I may be a mother or a father someday.
When you see me up to my elbows in paint,
Or standing at an easel, or molding and shaping clay,
Please don't let me hear you say, "He is Just Playing."
For, you see, I'm learning as I play.
I just might be a teacher someday.
When you see me engrossed in a puzzle
Or some "playing" at my school,
Please don't feel the time is wasted in "play."
For you see, I'm learning as I play.
I'm learning to solve problems and concentrate.
I may be in business someday.
When you see me cooking or tasting foods,
Please don't think that because I enjoy it, it is "Just Play."
I'm learning to follow directions and see the differences.
I may be a cook someday.
When you see me learning to skip, hop, run, and move my body,
Please don't say I'm "Just Playing."
For, you see, I'm learning as I play. I'm learning how my
body works. I may be a doctor, nurse, or athlete someday.
When you ask me what I've done at school today,
And I say, "I just played."
Please don't misunderstand me.
For, you see, I'm learning as I play.
I'm learning to enjoy and be successful in my work.
I'm preparing for tomorrow.
Today,
I am a child and my work is play.
